ADVOCACY
Advocacy is the very core of RCIL and is laced
through every department and service we offer.
Leaf, Loaf & Ladle is currently working on legislative
action regarding the anticipated March 2010 Congressional
vote on the Reauthorization of the Child Nutrition Act.
This legislation sets rules and funding levels for the major
school-based nutrition programs, including the School Lunch
Program, School Breakfast Program, and Summer Food Service
Program, and other important federal food programs such
as the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), and the
Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for women, infants
and children (WIC).
Why is this bill important?
Current funding levels leave just $1 for food service providers
to spend on the actual food served.
This is a once in every five years opportunity. The Reauthorization
of the Child Nutrition Act can help us accomplish the following
goals: achieve the Obama Administration’s goal of
ending child hunger and food insecurity; ensure a generation
of healthy, productive, nutritionally-aware children, create
jobs, and stimulate local agricultural economic activity
by increasing the investment into our children’s meals
funded by the Act. For more information on how you can become
involved, click here to contact
us.
